Why Choose OLED display to fix your phone screen?

OLED screens have been powering high-end smartphones for a while now, for example, iPhones 11 Pro, used the technology to produce better image quality for users. Samsung has been using OLEDs in its premium phones for many years, and most phone manufacturers are also adopting OLED displays, such as Apple, Xiaomi, Vivo, Huawei and others.

What is an OLED display?

OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diodes) works with roughly the same purpose as regular LEDs, but they function differently. A LED might use some stuff like silicon to emit light, while OLED uses organic material to serve. The technical explanation for OLED is, it’s a flat light emitting technology, made by placing a series of organic thin films between two conductors. When an electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. OLEDs are emissive displays that do not require a backlight and so are thinner and more efficient than LCD displays (which do require a white backlight).

With this efficient emitting technology, OLEDs provide the best image quality on mobile phones, TVs, laptops, etc.

Difference between LCD and OLED screens on mobile phone

The basic difference is that OLEDs produce their own light individually per pixel to display colors/images, while LCDs display images by relying on filtered light from a backlight array.

The major gain of OLED displays over LCDs is they can precisely control the pixels on an individual pixel basis. This means they can be completely turned off, and as they don’t need filters and other layers as LCDs, they usually have better contrast, brightness, and viewing angles.

Benefits of using OLED display on mobile phones

OLED displays getting rid of backlights really makes a difference. Image quality, power efficiency, and even physical dimensions can be better on a smartphone if it uses OLED to power its screen. Overall, the benefits of OLED phones can be concluded as:

  • Improved image quality – better contrast, higher brightness, fuller viewing angle, a wider color range and much faster refresh rates.
  • Lower power consumption.
  • Simpler design that enables ultra-thin, flexible, foldable and transparent displays;
  • Better durability – OLEDs are very durable and can operate in a broader temperature range;
  • More pleasing to our eyes. This can be inferred from better contrast ratio and higher screen brightness.
